Reading: Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas
I’m 819 pages in, 83% finished with the book and I don’t wanna adult anymore. I wanna sit in a corner on my couch and listen to Manon and Aelin and Lysandra kick the asses of everyone who gets in their way. Will my three year-old son allow that? Heck no. But a girl can dream. While this series is super dark, I don’t quite feel the ache I think I would if the female characters were not so strong. I know they’ll overcome, I know they’ll do what needs to be done. These are the type of women I imagine being friends with. I can picture them sitting with me and my friends. Laughing about stupid shit that happened or the way someone underestimated one of us. Because the characters are so well written and so complex it feels like I know them. I feel like I can tap in and borrow their strength in every day life. Lately, I find myself thinking, “I will not yield” when something indubitably fucks up at work, or in life.
Ahhh…I just went online to order the next book. I’ve been so excited to finish this book and get to book eight, because there’s eight books in the series right? Well, yes, yes there are. And this is book seven right? Yes, yes it is. But holy shit I forgot that Assassin’s Blade is book zero (even though I read it between books 2 and 3…that’s the way I chose to read it so don’t come for me) so technically Kingdom of Ash is book 8!! And I’m screaming inside!! I didn’t realize until I opened my Kindle to buy the next and final book….umm. Shit. Now I’m torn, do I read the book every chance I get so I can find out what happens or do I read it in little chunks and savor every last bit? Who am I kidding?!?! I’ve got to know. I literally cannot DNF books I hate…I’m totally not the person who can just slow down on a book I love after committing to thousands of pages in a series. Deep breath.
